Apple Internship
Role:
Product Design
Engineering Intern
Timeline:
11 Months
Skills:
NX, JMP, Tolerance Analysis, Failure Analysis, DFM, DFMEA, GD&T
Summary:
From September 2023 to August 2024 I worked on the Apple Watch Product Design team. I had the opportunity to work on 30+ projects spanning from competitive analysis teardowns, prototyping, module/user testing, system integration CAD studies, CAD design, and vendor management.
I contributed to all Apple Watch product lines (SE, Series, and Ultra), and my primary team assignment was with the Ultra Watch 2 which was eventually released in September 2023.
I had the opportunity to work on both currently released and unreleased next-gen technology.
Specifics are omitted due to NDA, but I will do my best to give some examples of what I did!
Things I Designed:
-
Flexes
-
Watch Housings
-
Test Bucks (humidity sensing, button click feel, module alignment, etc.)
-
Logic Boards
-
Novel Haptic Modules
-
Packaging Prototypes
-
Experimental Procedures
-
Next-Gen Modules
Pictures of analogous parts (due to NDA)
Teams I Worked With:
Watch/Phone/Interconnect/Power Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Product Management, FEA, Haptics Engineering, Health Sensing, Human Interface Device Quality Engineering, Industrial Design, Noise and Vibration, PD Architecture and Kinematics, PD Validation, Polymer Material Engineering, Transducer Engineering, and International Vendors.

Fun Facts:
-
I submitted a patent application for my intern project for a novel haptic mechanism.
-
I managed the redesign and manufacturing rollout of a logic board module in the Ultra 2. A similar board from the Ultra is pictured.
-
My team was selected as a finalist for the iContest (company wide idea-pitching contest). We got the opportunity to present an AI product keynote to a panel of Apple VPs.
I owned this module for the Ultra 2!
The End!
